Welcome to Alderwood Therapy
At Alderwood Therapy, I work with women whose experience of perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause has been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or missed.
If you've been told it's just stress, just anxiety, or just menopause — and walked away feeling unheard — you've found the right place. As a Registered Social Worker, Certified Sex Therapist, EMDR clinician, Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist, and Board Certified in Eating Disorders, I bring the specialized training this transition requires — and the kind of care that takes your full experience seriously.
In-person in Toronto and Stouffville, or virtually across Ontario.

Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist
Alderwood Therapy
I'm Jessica. I'm a Psychotherapist and Registered Social Worker. For over 25 years, I've worked with people in the middle of hard things: trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, grief, and the quieter pain of feeling unheard. Over the last several years, my work has narrowed into a population I keep coming back to: women in perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause whose mental, emotional, and sexual health has been brushed off.
It's not a small group. And it's badly under-served.
My credentials reflect where this work has taken me:
-
Psychotherapist, M.S.W., Registered Social Worker (RSW)
-
Certified Sex Therapist
-
EMDR Clinician
-
Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist
-
Board Certified in Eating Disorders
-
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
-
Equine-Assisted Therapy
-
ADHD-Certified Clinical Provider
-
Doctoral Candidate, Yorkville University. Research focus: nature-based mindful movement for mood disorders in perimenopause and menopause.
I list these because choosing a therapist is a decision you should be able to make with full information. They only matter insofar as they help you.
Here's how I actually use them.
Old trauma often resurfaces during the menopause transition, for biological reasons most women aren't told about. When that happens, EMDR is what I reach for. It works directly on the parts of the brain most affected by hormonal change.
When sexual changes show up, that's sex therapy. Desire, intimacy, body image, the question of who you are as a sexual person now. Most women in this transition aren't offered this kind of support, though it's where some of the deepest disruption happens.
When mood and anxiety spiral, DBT gives you tools that work in real time. MBSR and MBCT help you reconnect with a body that may feel like it's betraying you.
Eating patterns often return or emerge in midlife. They're rarely just about food. That's where my eating disorder training comes in.
For clients whose healing benefits from work outside the traditional therapy room, I offer equine-assisted and nature-based approaches. This is also where my doctoral research lives. It investigates how mindful movement in natural settings can support women whose mood disorders haven't responded to standard treatment.
The work I do isn't a single modality. It's whichever combination fits what you're actually navigating.
If you've been told you're too sensitive, too anxious, too much, that you're imagining things, or just getting older — and you knew something else was going on — I'd be glad to meet you.

Individual Therapy
I provide individualized therapy for children and teens (ages 12–18) and adults, with a specialized focus on trauma, eating disorders, personality disorders, and all stages of menopause—perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause. I work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns, including depression, anxiety, grief, ADHD, parenting challenges, and addiction. Whether you're struggling with a specific issue or seeking support for overall mental wellness, I offer a compassionate, personalized approach to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
Couples Counselling
Couples and marriage therapy helps by improving communication, resolving conflicts, understanding relationship patterns, enhancing intimacy, addressing individual issues, preventing future problems, learning healthy relationship skills, and rebuilding trust. Therapists facilitate these processes, fostering healthier and more fulfilling relationships.
Family Counselling
Family therapy helps family members understand and support each other during difficult times. Family systems therapy focuses on resolving issues within the family unit, recognizing that what affects one person impacts everyone. It emphasizes group dynamics and how individual actions influence the family as a whole.
